AG Neuromodulation und Neurorehabilitation

Die Forschungsaktivitäten der Arbeitsgruppe umfassen Fragestellungen zur neuronalen Plastizität und Reorganisation des Gehirns.  Zum einen untersuchen wir, wie das motorische System des Menschen aufgebaut ist und welche Rolle einzelne Regionen für die Planung und Durchführung von Bewegungen besitzen.

Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt liegt in der Erweiterung unseres Verständnisses über die Auswirkungen eines Schlaganfalls auf die motorischen und sensorischen Funktionen des menschlichen Gehirns.

Des Weiteren fokussieren wir unsere Forschung auf die Entwicklung neuer Strategien zum Wiedergewinn von  Bewegungsfunktionen bei Patienten mit motorischen Störungen.

Die eingesetzten Methoden umfassen die funktionelle Magnetresonanztomographie (fMRT),  die Elektroenzephalographie (EEG), die transkranielle Magnetstimulation (TMS) sowie Neuropharmakologie und Verhaltensexperimente. Die Forschungsarbeiten finden in enger Kooperation mit dem Institut für Medizin und Neurowissenschaften des Forschungszentrums Jülich statt.
